It’s time to clean out the tub toys..
This is a NEED TO KNOW post for ALL new parents!
If you are like me, you love squeaky bath toys! But images like the one below make you want to run to your bathroom and throw them all away.
Despite this horrible image, I continue to use squeaky bath toys with Miles. He loves them, I love them, and squirting his belly button makes me feel like its actually getting cleaned out.
Well I have a quick and easy way to clean your children’s bath toys – and any other toys that may have a small hole where water/moisture may become trapped inside.
Materials:
- (Bath) toys
- white vinegar
- bucket/sink
- hot water
Directions:
(Your proportions may be different than mine depending on how many toys you’re cleaning, but the ratio is one part white vinegar to three parts water.)
- I started with two cups white vinegar poured into a bucket of six cups extremely hot water. I then placed all the toys into the bucket to soak until the water was cool enough for me to touch. (If you want to go the extra mile you can use dish cleaning gloves to handle the toys in the hot water.)
- The next thing you want to do is squeeze the toys and fill them up with the water.
- Then shake them a little and squirt the mixture out into a drain. I did this three times to make sure any dirt and grime was out of the toys.
- After the initial clean, fill up the toys with water again and let them soak for 15-20 minutes. Then repeat the above swishing and draining steps.
There you have it! You have disinfected baby’s bath toys and they’re ready for you and your child to enjoy in the tub.
I have been doing this with my son’s bath toys every six weeks since we have started playing with them. If you have a set of squeaky toys that have not been cleaned in a really long time (let’s say over six months) I would just toss those out and get a new set. These ones are our favorite!
