The Common Core Math Standards place an emphasis on measurement and data collection. This Snail Trail Measuring unit hits every one of the Kindergarten and First grade standards under Measurement and Data.

There are two different ways for students to use this pack.

**First way:**

Print, cut, and laminate the Snail Trail cards. Have students pull a Snail Trail card and follow the directions on the worksheet. The students are to record the letter on the card at the top left in the circle on the worksheet. They are then to record the length of the snails trail according to the numbers on the bottom of the card.

**Second way:**

Print, cut, and laminate the Snail Trail cards. Have students lay the cards out in order from shortest to longest. The students follow the second worksheet by answering the questions. The worksheet includes questions relating to the cards such as… “What card snail trail card is at the number 6?” The answer to this question could be card “B”.

Kindergarten:

CCSS.Math.Content.K.MD.A.1 Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object

CCSS.Math.Content.K.MD.A.2 Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has “more of”/“less of” the attribute, and describe the difference.

*For example, directly compare the heights of two children and describe one child as taller/shorter*.CCSS.Math.Content.K.MD.B.3 Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.

**First Grade:**

CCSS.Math.Content.1.MD.A.1 Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.

CCSS.Math.Content.1.MD.A.2 Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps.
